Implemented in classrooms starting in the 2024-25 school year, the new TEKS for science in Texas require major changes to the way we have been teaching. Change is difficult at any level and especially at the scale of all Texas public schools, all science classrooms, for all teachers and students.
Funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Texas Collaborative for Science Innovation (TxCSI) was a two-year learning initiative (2022-2024) providing participating districts a sequence of cohort learning events, on-the-ground coaching and supports to transform science, teaching, learning, and curriculum.
Between 2022-2024 participating districts engaged in the following:
- Professional learning and coaching
- Capacity building for systems of support to continuously improve instruction
- Partnerships with other districts across the state
- Opportunities for sustaining grants
- Joining a statewide movement for improved science curricular materials
